Headlight Options
mikeb - 15/5/13 at 01:03 PM

Just wanted to know the options for headlights at a good price.
I had some old caterham 7" headlights but they look too big and might foul the wheel on full lock.

So my current options are 5" or dominator.
They will need to go through IVA.

What suppliers offer good price 5" units of reasonable quality

I like the look of the CBS ones but they are a flat beam is this IVA ok?

Flat beams are ok, as long as the flat part is defined ie: not blurred.
I have just passed IVA with Dominator's fitted.

Ive been put off putting dominators on mine for IVA just because of few mentions of iva issues and just general lack of brightness.

I plan on fitting some half decent standard 5-6 inch lights for IVA then either going for dominators with upgraged bulbs or even HIDs post IVA.

I originally had dominator on mine but when I took it to my mates garage for pre iva emissions and headlight alignment he laughed me out the place. The beam pattern was dreadful, very blurred and they weren't that bright either. Rather than risk a fail I fitted some similar to the ones on your 2nd link but I got them off eBay for 45 but I can't seem to find them now. Excuse the pun but they were like night and day much brighter and with a good kick up to the left.

I may refit the dominators as I do prefer the look, but I would be fitting some of russbosts new clear lenses and some super bright bulbs first.

I've just replaced my old Westfield 7" sealed beam items with some SVC 5 3/4" headlights with Halogen bulbs.

They look good and they're certainly much brighter.

My criticisms; the price £115 for a pair and the feeble anti-rotation tag inside the shell. It's there to stop the thread rotating when you do up the mounting nut but on mine the tag bent before I'd finished tightening the nut.

However they haven't moved yet

When it comes to lights, I believe that you get what you pay for and when it comes to quality, value for money and customer service, there is no better supplier than SVC in my opinion.

brightness isnt a problem for the IVA how ever the dominators are great on main beam next to useless on dip beam......
