Folks, i'm looking for advice about removing the column stalks on my car and putting them one the dash.

What switches would you recommend, any advice on what the do with the wiring?

Just running through my head at the mo, trying to get some opinions.

Stalks are a lot more convenient than switches.

I tried to live with dash mounted switches for a while but frankly found it far too irritating to live with. Having to lean over to turn the lights on is one thing but remembering to self cancel the indicators after every turn then having to lean over and operate two rocker switches just to flash the headlights proved too much hassle. The car is just that much nicer to drive now with the sierra column stalks.

Stalks are standard in 99.9% of cars for a reason!
However I dont have a standard column so have no where to mount them, so will be looking at push button system with some electrickery gadget to self cancel etc.

This being my first kit I haven't had any issues with dash mountedswitches, the only prob I had was forgetting to cancel the indicators. This has now been cured by having 2 very bright repeater Leds in my line of sight. Not done it since.

Back to the original question. Most tend to go for savage switches, myself included, they are crap quality for the price but they do look nice.

I built mine with a toggle switch on the dash oriented to line up with the movement of the wheel. Mainly because I couldn't accomodate column swithchs and paddle shift.

Yes, it was a slight pain to have to reach for it. In the end I pushed a short length of smallbore hose on it. I found a domed cap to put on the other end to finish it. Easy to opperate now as I can reach it with my finger while still holding the wheel. The hose flexes just enough so as not to break the toggle if it gets hit too hard.

I have just done this myself, and have put the indicators on buttons on the steering wheel to solve that issue. I have done some drawings on what wires need to go were so will try uploading them later for you.

As we wanted flappy paddles, we used a Landrover Mk3 stalk which gave us
switching from high to low beam & flash , indicators & horn,
side lights & headlights switches on dash (as you would on most cars)
I made our own wiring loom so was not a problem , you would need to trace all the wiring to the stalks & re-route as ness.

It's funny, and all down to personal preferences, I currently have no stalks - and all toggles, buttons & switches...

It frustrates me no end, and just ordered a Clio MK3 left stalk to do everything I want without having to reach for the dashboard!

I must admit, they are easy. part of the reason is sourcing another set of stalks as mine have started to play up.

It only takes a little pressure on teh stalk to flick from low to high beam, even uneven road surfaces can trigger it sometimes.

I'll soon be posting in the wanted section for MK1 stalks.

Aren't mk3 Clio stalks run off canbus?

I haven't a clue what canbus is - so I can't comment lol
