How do you know what direction your alternator is designed to run? I need to find a replacement smaller one but i am not sure the OE direction. Is it
looking at the front of the engine crank pulley or from the rear of the alternator?
What size can i go down to Amps wise for a 2L turbo?
Alternators run clockwise when viewed from the front same as most engines (with the exception of a few Honda's).
I am fairly sure that they can run in either direction. The fan may not work so well though.

Fuel injection system takes a fair current but by modern tin top standards you don't need a big alternator 40 amps is more than enough. If you have carbs you can go even smaller.

what else are you running off it ?
headed windows, geat big spot lights, electric windows, etc.... - or a track car no lights at and it just needs to start the engine
Nippon Denso from a Diahatsu Charade is a popular choice, sorry I never did establish the model number, but its running fine on my E Type.
mini alternator

It's just starting and lights I'd need it for. Are there any the people use because they are small?
That's pretty small! Will have a look out for a cheap one on eBay, have seen one but its from a terrios. Not sure if its the right one.
