Ford Coil Pack and Spark Plug leads - Pinto
karlak - 10/6/10 at 08:28 AM

As the title really.

Changing to Megajolt on the Pinto and understand that I will need different Plug leads to connect to the Ford Coil Pack. Does anyone know what type I will need ?

Depends on the age of the coil pack, early ones to about 1999 had clip on leads, later ones were a more conventional push in, not sure whether conventional dizzy leads fit though.

You can tell the early coils, they have a lip around the rim for the clips to grip.

Do the standard coil pack leads not fit the pinto plugs?

Dave Colledge at Retro Ford is the man who knows...

if you've got an early style coil pack (see pic) then a 1.3 /1.6 escort / fiesta circa 92-94 should do the trick - I think there are a couple of lenghts you can get depending on the exact model (best to go into your local motorfactors and have a look in there cataloge for a min)

or anything else that had the same coil pack with an old fashoned 8v engine

if you've got the later style coil pack then its KA one I think.....

the 16v engines have leads with those big rubber boots that fit into the head - so not much use to you

I bought some adaptors from Halfrauds that convert the plain ends of a dizzy lead to the clip required for the coilpack above.

Never had any problems.

Right had a look at the box but no vehicle details. They are from Sovereign and marked SL070. They are for the older larger coil pack (as pictured above)

looked out the box from mine, its an ElectroSpark 'OEK047' kit

but I've just found there cataloge which does cross-reference searching: linky

the Sovereign SL70 = a prospark OES112 apparently

and mine are the same as an SL50... linky 2

I think the only difference between the 2 different links is the lengths - but it doesn't tell you what they are
