Megasquirt- Not communicating

i no some people have had bother with comms between laptop and ms, i cant get mine to connect either can some one help me out??

Ive got a old laptop with serial- serial with windows Me that wont connect.

Ive got a borrowed laptop with serial to USB with windows xp- although laptop doesnt seem to like the usb/serial convertor.

So i finally got my new laptop today and installed everything and it wont connect still- its running VISTA(i know this may cause a few problems- but i should still be able to connect)

I fear i may have a broken ECU because it would connect last week but we found that the wrong firmware was on the ms it should be .29

And i had a clutch problem, so i removed the engine repaired clutch and put back together no when i used to put my key in and turn to ignition the fuel pump would prime and then cut off- it now doesnt??

On checking the wiring(i havent got a diagram) i see then ms controls the earth to the fuel pump via a relay- if a add a earth the fuel pump runns continuosly.

Can anyone tell me how to test to see if im getting a proper connection.

if you'r really stuck, and wanted to post your unit to me, i can test/possibly repair it for you?

Does the ECU itself have a decent earth?

Power at the squirt?? first port of call Remember it WILL NOT communicte unless the squirt is powered up. Also in communications check tour settings first.





If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Have you checked your relays?
Check you have power at Fuel pump and main relay.

Yea im not entirely sure its the ecu yet, not sure how to test?

seems to be fine, they are alll into one plug unless the plug is gone- where can i test earth inside ecu??

yes both relays are ok, the earth isnt there at pump relay but i belive its controlled via ecu pin 37??

Do you know what pin powers up ECU???

Yep pin 28 as per Piddy's above diagram.

Right so as per diagram, if ive got positive and negitive on them point, chances are the ecu is fecked?

also i dont know if this is a issue but there is a very low whine on my speedo. ive went through all my wiring and every thing on whole car seems fine.
