Launch Control
AntonUK - 17/8/17 at 02:04 PM

So a bit of a project today was to fit a clutch switch to the Ginetta for a bit of Launch control fun.

Has anyone else done it on here? and would like to share their setting?

Hoping for a starting point before going off to find a quiet area to test it.

On the GTM, I have quite a basic system.

I have it set for 4000RPM until 12MPH.

Mine is ECU (Honda) controlled.
Just a basic rev limiter and the ECU see's speedo pulses and works it out from there.

Same here, but on the (previous, now sold) car with megasquirt. Had the launch RPM set at 4K, and made a small external circuit that controlled the launch control input depending on a switch and a wheel speed controlled universal output of the megasquirt.

I did not use a clutch switch, but rather a momentary switch that would "arm" a latching relay, but only if the front wheel speed would be below a certain value (20 km/h or thereabouts, I think). Sounds cryptic, but it worked very, very well:

launch control start
launch control start

Made for lots of flames and very, very brisk standing starts even with the lowly 2.0 Pinto I had in the car at that time. I can see if I can still dig up the circuitry I made, but this was done maybe 8 years ago....

I have a 4K hold on mine, it stays there until the revs exceed 4k.
So in practice, stop, press button, engine revs to 4k, drop clutch and accelerate, as revs pass 4k the launch function is cancelled. Nothing technical at all, works quite well.
