Are injector retaining clips needed on Duratec?
se7ensport - 3/10/13 at 09:19 PM

Swapping injectors from within the throttle bodies to the standard location within the head, and while they are supposed to be the same, the grove at the top that the retaining clip sits in is at a different hight. Are the metal clips actually needed? once the rail is bolted in I cant see that they perform a function, anyone with any experience of not using them?

I'm not using them.

I can now answer my own question.... Yes and no.

Yes, engine runs fine without, no leaks etc...

No, removing the fuel rail is now a pain in the ass; I have to drain the rail first otherwise the injectors stay behind in the head and the rail squirts a few hundred millilitres of fuel over the block.

Oh, my injectors are a tight fit into my rail and don't fall out.

Mine are tight, but the head is tighter...

Bugger, when I take the fuel rail bolts out the assenbley just falls over, dont have that issue. It just comes away with the injectors.

Are the O rings too big? or just tolerances on the casting?
