Carbon fibre dash
davida - 11/3/07 at 07:41 PM

Hi,

I've been staring at the carbon fibre dash the Mac#1 boys shipped me a couple weeks ago............... very nice!

I'm sure many people have been there......stared at the dash, then my dremmel, then the dash again........ bottled it when it came to cut a hole for the steering column.......

Had a beer, stared at the dash again..... then another beer....... still haven't drilled the damn hole !

Hi Dave;

I had the same and am very happy that I made various templates of cardboard, as Chenti suggests. This not only helped with the location of holes but is also helpfull when deciding on placement. Somehow you only see the correct placement when you're sitting in the car with the steering wheel attached and your hands on the wheel.

Hi Chenti; great pic! What dash are you planning to use and where did you get that beautifull steeringwheel? What dash, buttons and lights will you fit in it?

How do you plan to wire that wheel to the car?

Am jealous!

Rgrds,

Mies.

chenti nice dash ,how much may be interested

Thanks

I am fortnate to work in F1...with some mates who make them..

I have a few choices, do i stick with my Tiger dials, or do i find some cash to put a digi dash 2 in..(hence the template)
I am looking to run switches in the streeing wheel that will control indicators,lights..etc..
Getting a system to self cancel the indicators is a challenge, as will getting the cables down the column.

Should be nice when done though

I thought i recognised the steering wheel. Saw something similar on a tour of the Benetton factory. How much would one of those cost?

I know exactly how you feel!

I need to work on a price for the dash, made a couple of prototypes and they are now used...
I can get a price if there is enough interest....
As for the Steering wheel...too much!!
How much for the deisgn time, pattern and mould making, laminating, trimming....
What can i say..just very fortunate...

Any ideas on getting indicators to work with no column mounted arms..?

Cheers

Small switch on the dash.

See here:

presume it does not self cancel?

i'm looking to run independant switches in the s/wheel, and done want to have to manually switch them off once i've been round the corner....
You can get some swish electronic boxes from the states that sort it, but they are not cheap....

Avoneer - 11/3/07 at 10:34 PM

Nope, does not self cancel.

But you get used to leaving them on - been there a hundred times in the Avon.

You can get (or make) 30 second timers for under £30 I think, but I can live with it.

May fit a buzzer if I need to.

OK..... Scary I went through the exact same feelings yesterday, it took 3 templates and about 3 hours to finally cut the hole. My approach was, draw round the dash, cut it out, place it on the car, push through the cardboard with the steering column, then make a neater version, place that on your dash, and drill the hole!... Also you can check ur hole by measuring the verticle and horizontal distances from the scuttle pannel.
