Ive restarted other thread cos it was getting messy.
Timing reset. New coil fitted 9i didnt realise the one i got with engine was points type!). just done 0 - 60 in 6.4secs!!!! Well happy. Car felt
really strong. Mixture needs setting up next. I cant believe how much of a difference it is. When i get used to launch and roads dry up i hope to
shave another 0.2 off that.
Im actually amazed how it ran before, good ole pintosaurus. Timing was well well btdc. I need to tune my ear better before trying to do it without
timing light next time. Piston must have only been 3/4 of way up in compression cycle when it was firing before.
Unfortunately started to rain just now while out so had to come home. Watching weather intently at the moment!!
Morale of the story - set it up properly instead of being lazy!!!
What do you time your 0-60 with?
I'd like to have some kind of performance testing kit to do the same.
Carnut
Ive fitted full DD2. Calibrated the speedo at SVA so know its within 1mph at 70. Ive been using 0-60 time as a comparator when tweeking. My launch
technique is however shocking so probs more variable than the tweeks!!
DD2 is a fantastic piece of kit. I think the new DD2 lite has 0-60 function as well and is far cheaper.
Probably covering old ground Darren, but what spec is your Pinto?
It started life as a 1987 injected. Bottom end is totally standard afaik. Head has been diy ported following Des Hammill advice (maybe not quite as
far as Des suggests). Kent FR32 cam. Skimmed 40thou (1mm). New springs, followers, guides, seals, seats recut.
Carb is 38DGAS. Apparently jetted for RS2000 but i have no proof of that.
Exhaust is Mac#1 4 branch, stainless using David Vizard lengths etc.
Gearbox is std type 9. Diff - i wish i knew what it is! Came out of 1992 2.0 DOHC Sierra.
Wheels are 15" dia, 7" wide running Toyoe Proxes 195/50's.
does anyone have similar spec that i can benchmark off?
Mine is fully rebuilt to standard spec including the cam, but fitted with a 32/36DGV and MK exhaust. Not on the road yet so no figures for
comparison.
Have you got any pics of the porting you did - I have a spare head, which I'm planning to have a go at...
Nick
Take an axe, go at your head for 30 minutes solid using the axe and you'll have a fairly close match for Darrens head.
and runs for cover

LMFAO!!!!!
Thanks Jos, i owe you one for that. Just you wait.........
Wouldn't mind having a look at your car sometime Darren, looking at MAC#1 myself.
As a comparison, what kind of production cars do 0-60 in 6.4 secs?
Romer
you are most welcome Romer. Straight along A66, off at Barnard castle, im about 10 miles or so further along. Cant recommend Mac#1 highly enough. Look
out for big write up in forthcoming TotalKitCar.
Im not sure what prod cars do 6.4. My old M3 was about 5.5 ish. I doubt if i could make it do that. I bet in the right hands in better conditions mine
would be closer to 6 (yes - my launch technique really is that bad!). Iam frankly amazed for such few and cheap mods.
As said before 0-60 is recorded on DigiDash. I assume its accurate but may not be like for like with prod car Mira recording equipment - good ball
park tho'.
Isnt this it Darren???
X/Flow head pic 2
Yes thats the one. Forgot i took that pic. That was just before i fitted it.
Have you been eating raw meat for lunch Joslad??????? I sense a smidging of jealousy creeping in here! brum brum
Have you done any 0-30 sprints yet?
No wonder you've been having problems - I'm impressed that you fitted that head to a Pinto!!!!

Hit the nail on the head Darren. I'm hoping to have a DAMN good crack at getting some serious miles under my belt over the next few weekends so I might be able to help you with comparisons.
Well i couldnt resist tinkering tonight. I reset the timing to approx 12deg after checking TDC was about right and it seems to run even better. Had a
run out (yes it was freezing!) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now have to be careful how power is put down to prevent loads of wheelspin and backend
stepping out. Drive took me thro the town to get home, im surprised i didnt get pulled - i forgot that i was wearing my Sparco overalls!
Next jobs are to refit silencer to seal it better, check carb gaskets and get fuel reset.
I dont know how the DD2 calculates BHP, but i set weight to 800Kg and it recorded 154BHP. I guess this is reading high but as a comparator it didnt
read that high earlier today. Need now to do another 0-60 run - suspect tho that i may have wheelspin problem. g meter read 0.78 on acceleration.
Accelerator has turned into a switch.
I always find that my car seems faster at night. I think its the combination of colder more dense air giving the engine more grunt, the road/tyres
being colder so less grip (seems like more power) and when its dark you cant see as well so it seems faster. I hope this isnt the case and you find
you have just tuned your engine better.

Eh? Blasphemy!!!
Good ol Crossflow my lad...
Glad the tinkering seems to be producing results for you Darren - it should be on peak performance by the time the Teesside Track day comes around.
Cheers
