Engine bay earth point
chockymonster - 8/9/06 at 08:50 AM

Guys,

I'm wiring up the MNR loom at the moment.

I've sorted my rear earth but I'm not sure where to mount the front earth point.
Any suggestions?

Paul

hi paul

i usually have an earth going from engine cradle mounting bolts on chassis direct to earth terminal

Do you then connect the front loom earth to the battery then?

the biggest current will be for the starter motor so you want fat wire gong from battery negative to the motor; usually the connection connection to it is via the gearbox engine block so you want to connect on one of those but close to the starter. It is porbably arbitrary as to where you connect to the chassis but obvioulsy you would use a short length of wire.

what I am trying to say is there is no single correct place but many bad ways of doing it.

Guess which one I'll choose then

I welded a lug onto the chassis, then earthed all the cables at one point.
This should be a std fitment on every chassis.
The cable lying across the picture goes to the battery. Wasn't connected when I took the picture. Other cable is from the Lug to the Bellhousing.
Sorry for the Big piccy.

Whoever gets my order (and it may well be MNR) will be kindly asked to do this.
