I had to cut a bit of the nut (nyloc one) in order to fit the bolt.
Is this normal?

I've had to shorten bolts all the time.

If you shorten a nyloc. it will damage the integretary?? wont it??, therefore fail SVA!!

I was going to grind mine down but, havent as yet!

I need a slimline one, as i cant fit mine either!!

You can narrow them down by holding them against a linishing belt or similar without any problem, don't take any off the lock side though and be careful to keep them flat.

I used a half nut and locktighted it.

Marc sent me two "crushed" nuts for use here. They are full nuts that have been squezed so that the grip the nut. They perform the function of a nyloc but are not as tall.

I didn't cut the nyloc, just 2mm of metal above the nyloc... but I'll get another one an grind the other side...

Yep, I know that Mr G Man, but in the top pic, the little metal plate oval ring retainer thing is on the bottom and IIRC, they are all on the top of normal Sierra diffs.

That may be true, but you can see the top bolt in the pic just behind the fuel pipe, and if it was upside down, then the bottom bolt would clearly be in view..

Additionally the bottom casting lug can be seen and the vane direction is correct...

Therefore it is safe to conclude that this diff has a differerent retainer position..

Besides, I think it could of been mounted upside down if just the two rear most mounting points had only been used initially.

Hi.

There is another very simple solution.

I've used low profile nyloc nuts which fit perfectly; they are 12mm high instead of the standard 14mm.
