2k paint masks
i found a auto paint supplier local to me, he can't stock cellulose paints (i'd prefer these over the 2 pack paints for the iso-cyanite
reasons.
thing is he showed me a new mask, which is not an air fed mask. he said its from america and is the only one approved for isocyanates. its only £25 
obviously its not intended for professional use, but he said it would be of for DIY.
it looks like this type

its got pre filters and stuff too. anyone had any experience of them?

I doesn't look any different to any of the other cannister type masks to me. I don't know for sure whether it would be okay but I
wouldn't be too keen.

see, thats what i thought when he showed me. i'm sure he didn't want me dead
he did say its the first one to be approved for use with 2k paints though...

I would have thought if filters were okay then the pro's would have already been using them.

I've got one, and have used it for 2k paints a few times now, no ill effects during or afterwards (that I am aware of obviously!) and I checked
them out before buying and using as well, and the claims appear geniune enough.
Hope that helps a bit

CELLULOSE is still available on the net or you can get synthetic paints which look and feel and even smell like cellulose.
A mates dad used to do refinishing when I was at college. He would often do 2k with out a mask.
By 50 he wasnt in the best of health to say the least.

bought one of those three years ago from Paint Shop products in Tadley,its very good and has the special filters necessry for two pack paint.This
paint is so easy to use and stays shiny

That type of mask was (may still be) approved for entering a well ventilated spray booth for short periods BUT the fillter cannisters don't last
long.
Be aware just how dangerous 2k paints are, some people are more sensitive than others and you can suddenly become sensitised to them and suddenly
find yourself gasping for breath even if you have used them before.
Also be aware 2 pack spray drift can car carry an enormous distance and remain wet and sticky.

i know how dangerous they can be. which is why i'd rather use cellulose.
seems no ones allowed to sell it though (halfords do, but at double the price of the 2k paints...)

2 Pack paints are not worth the risk. Air fed masks and an air-changed booth are the only way to go.

All these Prophets of Doom, telling us that you'll die just looking sideways at 2k paint.
Yes, it can be toxic. But, if you spray it in well ventilated areas, and exercise common sense, it is no worse than any other car paints. Why do you
think cellulose is being phased out? It's dangerous as well, but for different reasons.
I've sprayed 2 pack paints for 35 years and more on cars, trucks, boats and plugs, and always used a charcoal and dust filter. The items
available today are better than they used to be.
You have to change the filters often, but at £10/pair for the latest items, it's not a big addition to the painting budget.
A little bit of common sense can go a helluva long way!!!

we have to use air fedd masks and where paint suits and gloves at work as they say just as much spray gets absorbed through your skin and eyes as
breathing it in
