Found some tonight.
I finally got around to removing the 1980s bucket seats today and discovered some in the centre section of the car. Nothing too terrible - an L shaped section about 40mm on each leg of the L reaching for about 350mm total and in an easily accessible part of the chassis, so no big deal.

Most interesting bit is that it reminded me that my old bus is a monocoque in the centre section and a basic spaceframe at either end. Maybe this means that it really is fairly rigid where all those pesky spaceframes are all floppy.
The rest of the rust you see in this pic is just surface before the Zil wire brush and painting treatment.

The underside of the floorpan is perfect having been protected by the outfall of a crossflow for 20 odd years.

Don't you find that a Starter motor is a bit bulky as a gear stick.



Rust doesn't look that bad, looks curable without too much major surgery.





Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

that's just light, easy to sort.

I'd cleen up the underside and after painting, underseal it.

Well, that really is the very worst bit of the whole car and it is as localised as it appears.

Much as it makes absolute sense to strip it right back to the last nut and bolt. I'll have to think on that one.
My work space is very confined and I certainly don't have the room to keep everything in the shed whilst it's off the car.

However.

The front third of the car is back to the bare chassis right now as is the middle third - those panels are the chassis.

Once that's all done correctly, removing the rear section and attending to that is the next logical solution.

I'll see, but I'm in no rush to get it finished. I promise to take my time and do it properly.

(Trust me, you shouldn't ever encourage me to hurry up and finish something. I'll do it, but I won't like the results and neither would you. )
