MK Aeroscreen Extension

I have a black MK aeroscreen fitted to my Tiger supercat, problem is i have some intatrim oddessy seats as well which are comfy, but elevate me so i don't get that much effect from the aeroscreen.

I am toying with the idea of trying to make a transparent extension for the MK aeroscreen, a bit like the westfield one.

I thought i should post on here to see if anyone has done anything similar, or has any advice on how to do it. My fear is if i try to shape transparent lexan/plastic then it would become opaque, is this true?

Any advice would be apprieciated.

I have an MK Aeroscreen fitted to my car, and it isn't great to be honest.

Before fitting it I could feel the air hitting my chest when I was driving along. Since fitting it the air hits my head (which means helmet for even the shortest journey).

I thought about fixing a small vertical bit of clear plastic to the rear edge as one solution, and then saw the MAC1 aeroscreen with the "double bubble". That looks to have two motorbike windscreens fitted to the top of the aeroscreen to provide that bit of extra lift.

That is the kind of thing i am after, but the 'motorbike screen' bit i would like to be transparent.

Perhaps a motorbike screen would do the job if there was one that would fit.

I was thinking of something like this:

But would have to come up with a way of fixing it to the existing aeroscreen neatly.

I agree that shape would be fine, add a tint to it.

If only i could make it myself with mounting points.

I looked at a bunch of motorbike screens but am clueless as to which ones would fit.

Hi!

Has anyone got any comments on these screens? Do they work? I'm having an Mk built for me at the mo and would like to drive it on the road without wearing a helmet

Blueskate, where abouts are you? I would strongly recommend asking someone local to you to take you out for a blast without a helmet before you make any decisions on windscreen / aeroscreen / helmet.

I have been a passenger in 2 Caterhams with full windscreens and side doors. Both were OK without a helmet, although I did get a really sunburnt forehead on one blat. Shades were just to cope with the blinding sun we get up here!

I have also been a passenger in a locost with just a windscreen and no helmet. I could hardly see, I had to have one eye closed! The buffeting from the air coming round the sides of the screen was really bad.

Then I have driven 3,000 miles in my Indy. The first 1,000 with no screen at all, just a helmet. The air at 70mph hits you straight in the chest and then up under the lid of your helmet. Cold neck even on hot days!

Then I fitted an MK Aeroscreen. It moved the airflow up from my chest to my face! This is OK when wearing a helmet, but uncomfortable without one.

If I am going round the doors, I won't wear a helmet, just impact resistant shades. But I once made a diversion onto the A1 with just shades on. The amount of stones being thrown up, flies and other road debris left me with a face that looked like I'd been jogging behind a gritter.

Try blagging a few rides before you commit to something that you might not find to your liking.

I'm now looking at modifying the MK Aeroscreen to see if I can raise the airflow another few inches so it goes over my head.

But for the cost I may well just cut my losses and buy one of these new ones!

Cheers

Mike

Hi guinness,

I'm in Essex. To be honest i'm commited to the car either way . I realise the car won't afford the sort of protection a tin top will, but if i'm off out for a little blast on a sunday afternoon i'd like to leave the helmet at home! I don't mind getting buffeted around from the sides and i'll always be wearing shades. I'm just looking for a screen that pushes the wind over my head at modest speeds. If this aeroscreen works well then i'll take it

Ive got one from the old Playskool lot (No longer ) and i think it works a dream. Wind hit the very top of my head with it there and the seat on runners.
Hair goes a bit mad but with a beanie and glasses all seems ok.

Helmet is fine with it, wind goes over the top mainly.

Its very very similar to the one you see on ebay mentioned above!
