Carbon Fibre Bonnet from CarbonMods.co.uk

Hi all,

I just thought I'd post a couple of pics of what I was up to yesterday!

I was over in Leek at Carbonmods.co.uk where I was helping Paul do the final stages of fitting and trimming to my new carbon bonnet!

As quite a few of you know - I made the ultimate schoolboy error of being a new kitcar owner and left my bonnet catches off after a bit of fettling on a quick run out, most of you know what happens next (especially if you are chasing Ox in his Busa Indy at more than recommended Bypass speeds!) I had it on for a while because after I'd found out how much my manufacturer wanted for a replacement bonnet I just couldn't justify it!

Then I got talking to Paul at Carbonmods and then made a mould out of a sheet of galvanised steel and two formers from plywood that were the opposite shape to the profile of the scuttle and nosecone. Took the whole lot over to Paul who wetlaid up the carbon and the went back over in the kitcar for a proper fitting. It took a while to get the fitting that both Paul and I were happy with, but once done it looks the danglies!!! (it was the first bonnet Paul's done and he is quite a perfectionist!)

It weighs quite a bit less too, along with being LOADS stiffer!

I'm thinking of getting a couple of "cobra type" stripes in body colour running through the bonnet to tie it in with the rest of the car a little more!
I am also going to drill a few 50mm holes and fit mesh at the rear of the bonnet to expel hot air, as I have a full floor so it really doesn't have anywhere to go!

And before anyone mentions it, there is a small gap round the shut lines as I haven't had chance to fit the bonnet clasps yet, so thats how it fits without being pulled down into place by the catches!

Paul (along with brother Matthew and dad John) are super lads, very accomodating and with customer service skills second to none! The burger from the pub over the road is worth mentioning too!!!

I cannot praise the guys enough, it is a quality piece of kit, and I'm so glad I've done it!

so it's the nosecone next I guess!!!

cheers,
Steve

I'd run your website address down the middle in the body colour.

It does look the bollox. And it'll fit mine.

Where are you parking the car at Donny ?

You could start the website address at the nose cone in black then change over into the body colour at the bonnet.

Or just buy a carbon nose cone !

The bit of scuttle that shows needs painting black to blend in, or some more carbon fibre.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
