Chrome 7" Headlights
Looking for the best set of lights I can afford £100, obviously need to keep the sva man happy, can anyone recommend a light and supplier they have
been happy with.
Preferably one that I can purchase online as I had a look at Premiere Wiring but don't seem to be able to buy online.
Cheers chaps and chapesses

SVC ones are very good quality (chrome on brass so they don't rust) £28 over budget, but worth the extra IMHO.
I'm very happy with the 5 3/4" black ones I bought.

Order over the phone, email, fax, post or at pretty much any show.

You could try a pair from this place. The 7" units
are halfway down the page. Delivery is very rapid. This is how they look on the car.
They're not as fine as the SVC ones - but they're a fraction of the price! I've had mine for more than 3 years and they're
showing no signs of corrosion, etc.
They also throw a huge amount of light forward - far better than my tin-top - and are totally SVA-legal.
HTH,
David

David they look like just what I'm after, thanks, think I'll place an order later.
Just a query about the bike lights and I thought for sva they had to dip to the left so the motorcycle ones where not suitable.
Cheers
Rich

Yep - car lights must dip left - the ones I mentioned do just that, and are marked correctly on the glass (an arrow pointing to the nearside). All
the other markings are correct as well.

David - nice site , thanks
Can't quite see from the pics in your archive how you mounted them. Is it tube flattened at the ends to take the spigot ?
Or is there a more sophisticated way ?

I'm an awkward so-and-so as far as the headlamps are concerned!
I was a bit concerned about the top shock mounting, so I welded some U-section across from the diagonal brace. I left this long to become the
headlamp mount. Hard to explain - I'll see if I can find a picture.
Anyway - these light units are fixed with a threaded rod and a large nut underneath. Between the headlamp casing and the nut is a bell-shaped bit. I
guess that you'd have to provide a flat mounting surface for that bit to sit on (about 1" or so in diameter). Shouldn't be too hard
to provide.
I'll get my camera out and take some piccies - stand by...

Here we go.
This is the only bit where some work is required to satisfy the SVA tester. I had to put some rubber edging around the rim of this bit, and a split
nut cover over the end of the mounting tube, where the wire comes out.
Strangely, this seems to have fallen off...

And here's what I meant about the shock/headlight mount. Not suggesting that you should copy it, but at least it shows what I meant!

These passed SVA, but need regular autosolvol to stop rust, but my car is kept outside under a car cover

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
