engines engines engines :(
Hey guys, im now getting to the stage where a nice engine needs to be put in my car, i have a Ford 2.0 DOHC (8V), which i have modified (ie shortened
sump), but im not realy interested in what that has to offer me. What is a good, cheep, reliable, easy to source engine that would fit in the standard
book chassis with out much trouble?
thanks very much

2 litre pinto is probably your best option. They are cheap and plentiful, and without a lot of effort you can get 160bhp from it.
Other people will tell you all sorts of engine combinations. Most modern engines (bike or 16V car engines) will cost you a substantial amount of money
to install compared to a pinto.

Pinto? Boat anchor.
Nice x-flow like this (ETDWM):

When you say cheap, what sort of budget are you talking?
That will greatly affect things.
If it's £100 then a Pinto may well be your best bet.
Yes it's blinkin heavy (so may not fit your "good" criteria) but it certainly fits the others.
Cheap to get running with a 32/36 carb and the dizzy, coil and amp from a 1600 Pinto.
If you've got more money than that then there's loads of options!
Cheers,
James
EDIT: Bear in mind it's also very tall. If you have a standard Locost chassis you'll need to chop 1" out of the Pinto sump and then
you'll still need a bonnet bulge I suspect.

Depends what you mean by cheap.
You will have to spend some money on a pinto to make it quicker than what you already have.
I also using the DOHC in my build.
Standard power 125BHP,174Nm @2500rpm. both quite a bit better than a standard pinto.
Fit a better air filter setup & turn the fuel reg. 3/4 of a turn. Power = 135-140bhp.
You will have to spend some money on the pinto to match this
Pinto:105BHP,160Nm@4000rpm.
I'm hoping for around high 140's with twin carbs & a tubular manifold.
Oh & by the way with its mt75 g/box, it's lighter than a pinto with a type 9

Alex,
If you do dump it and want to sell the modded sump please let me know - I would be interested in buying it.
