Front indicator position

I would be most grateful for clarification on the following regarding positioning

IVA. Section 23 "i. 80° outwards 45° inwards.
ii < 750mm above the ground 20° inwards"

From scouring the forum I had noticed a builder who extend the position of the indicator to comply with what appears to be section "i. 80° outwards 45° inwards." which has confused me.

Am I correct in assuming if I draw a line parallel to the side of my car and then take an angle of 20° from that line to the front edge of the nose cone, the indicator must be on the outside of this line, how much is another question, all or part?

Thanks in advance.

Hamish

Having read this again, it will be an angle of 20° from the front corner of the nose cone looking backwards . Hope this is clearer

Hi, understanding some of the rules is difficult, so most people just copy cars like Caterhams seeing as they have more of an idea about them and get their own cars through all the time.

Caterhams use a light on the top side of the front cycle wings, some others have put the repeater on the rear arches, but make sure they are not too far away from the front edges of the car. Alternatively you can fit mirrors with built in side repeaters, or make your own.

Thanks Jason.

Will scoure a bit more for ideas. Indicators have been fitted which would be within the 20° angle. I will attempt to find a method of extending them.

Again most appreciated.

Google IVA Light position
You can search on LocostBuilders because I know it has been posted on here, and Pistonheads and Westfield forum.

Side repeaters can be put in the side of the headlight bowl, the wing mirrors, the edge of the wings etc, front indicators extended on a rod to bring them further out from the nose to meet the distance requirements.
I have side repeaters on the body but the small repeaters in the headlight bowl are neat and high enough to get over the the rear arch restriction

The front indicators are positioned using simple Measurements, the side repeaters are used to provide the required angle of view to side and rear

Afraid not, the rear arches will obscure them
I put mine on the rear arches, very easy to wire up

Stick them on the cycle wing I have a set of carbon Caterham style pods to go under the headlamps but they are just short of the 400 mm from the widest part of the vehicle for the IVA test so went for cycle wing mounting these should pass.

“Afraid not, the rear arches will obscure them”

The scuttle is way above the rear wheel arches.

Will look at possibility of fitting to headlight or rear arches. Did you embed wiring in wheel arch?

Thanks again
