Car Shape/Style
Hi, I think I will end up building a middy, but I think I prefer the front engined locost bonnet look.
Anyone seen a middy which doesn't look like a le mans type car?
I'm guessing the locost/7 type bonnet if it was shorter and poteniallly 4 inch wider would look a bit naff on a middy. I've seen a couple
of pics of a sylva, and they look nice, but lot's of compound curves
I bought kit car magazine for 'inspiration', and they either had pictures of le mans, ferrari, sevens, or lots of Cobras.

Maybe, I kinda want more of a GT style car, rather than a pure race car-need to sell it to my missus some how.
My ideal car would be one that I can add to as funds allow, such as roof side screens doors etc.
With enough boot space for luggage AND a passanger
Perhaps even keeping the bits over the wheels, increasing the nose heaight slightly and having more space under the front?
I may even put a spare wheel there if there is room.
some very basic doodles.

2 very ugly cars IMHO.
Personal choice is bodywork - I know I wanna do my own but I think asking people's opinion of bodywork can get a little futile as everyone has
different tastes.
Some people like the Fiat 125!!! (See wifey and slap her at will!!!)

Sounds like we're on a similar quest. My build is stalled at present for financial and personal reasons but here's a pic of my 1:10 styling
model.
 
Gecko model with silver sides
The intent was to keep as much as possible to the Locost style which allows simple folded aluminium panels - very similar to your first sketch.
Plenty of discussion on topics like this in the Mid-Engined section.

What about the Mojo 2.
Guy near me is building one. Engine is 2.2 Honda Vtec with modified head. Target is 230BHP and 500Kg wet!!
Apparently gear links have been biggest challenge but now working. Its on throttle bodies etc. I think he may have some traction problems.

Yeah, I really like the idea of the side aluminium panels too, will search out some more of them posts.
As for my engine choice, don't think ill be suffering from loss of traction, as plenty of weight in these...By the time i actually get building,
I am hoping to get my hands on the new generation of diesel engines.
as for the body style, I need somthing my missus could drive, so no step ladders to get in. But possably side steps as in Doodle2 above...

Well, the cockpit sides of my design are only 450mm (18" ) above the ground, about the same as a Locost. If she has trouble getting up and over
that then you've probably got other issues

Highly reccomended - I've chopped and modified my model a number of times to get the balance of the styling to a point I like without spending
much money. As well, I'm currently building a 1:6 scale chassis model from strip balsa (since the financial and other resources to build the
real thing are currently unavailable ) The 1:6 model will be useful because I have a 1:6 poseable artists dummy that I can sit in it or stand next
to it to give a better sense of scale and proportion. If I have time I'll knock together a 1:6 body model too, to complete the set
