number plates
hi guys does anyone know where i can get those stick on number plates ,ie so i can stick it on the top of the nose cone .
i keep on ripping them off the bottom of my nosecone on them speed humps

To my knowledge, I think they aren't legal.
P.S. I don't know where you can get them from.

you can do it with cut vinyl. try a couple of local sign makers. They should have a plotter to cut the vinyl and the vinyl it's self is fairly
inexpensive. The letters and the white background would be cut seperately, the background applied to the nose cone first and the letters over the top
of that. If you can''t find a reasonable sign maker try looking for those precut letters that are available at some automotive
shop's and bike shops. IMHO it'll look better, if you're gonna go the sign maker route, to ask him to put a 15MM radius on the
corners of the white background. Shameless pulg... try finding your local Signs Express.

They only do rear for bikes and
You can't get them for bikes any more as they are not road legal. Bike rear plates have to be square now.

if you want a small plate you can have one made.... at a sign makers. Get a bit of clear acrylic cut to the size you want the plate to be, have the
letters cut as a mirror image, apply them to the rear of the acrylic and then apply your background colour, either yellow or white. Hey presto,
profesional looking tiny plates.

You do have to be registered to make plates, but I don't think a small sign making firm would ask you for ID, like Halfords do. Don't
think we would.

My local accessory shop sells front and rear stick on plates.They are marked for show use and not to be used on the road. Iwas also told that they
were illegal when i bought a rear stick on for my trailer. The letters are also available but i made mine up in word and adjusted the font and size to
look correct, then printed them and cut them out.I then stuck them to the backing plate and put a perspex front from an old number plate over the
top.
It was a lot of hassle to avoid having to go back to the shop with reg documents etc.

You can at least get the correct font for number plates from the web - a link was posted on this site some time ago.
Pretty sure anything other than the "official" types are illegal and would fail at MOT time, but stick on ones can certainly look good.

Signmakers charge a min charge for the job of £45 + vat the will cut any thing no questions asked most dont know that you need to register to make
car plates so no bother there. www.signarama.co.uk a whole chain of franchises that need the biz shamless plug (mate has edinburgh branch)
Generate your cut file in Adobe Illustrator 10 and they cut straight from that. AI format

Not for road use they aren't. They may get round some regs if they are import vehicles but for vehicles registered here the regs are
different.

but the focus wrc is run with british reg. no. so it seems its one law for them and another for joe public.

if you are gonna send graphics to a sign maker, or printer for that matter, you'd prolly be wise to send dulpicates of your artwork as both an
EPS file and an Illustrator file. You could also use Corel Draw to set the layout.

Free Template
If you'd like a GB style number plate template you can download mine
here in EPS format. All you need to do is add the lettering. Guidelines
for letter size and spacing for plates fitted after 1st September 2001 can be found on the
DVLA's web site.

I have a Windows TTF (True Type Font) file for the numberplate characters, which can be used in Word and the like.
Trouble is, I have no idea how to post it here... anyone know how to make a ZIP file available?

That's cracking, thanks very much.
For anyone who's interested i've updated my EPS file to include all the relevant letters and numbers from Davids number plate TTF, as well
as the original euro style plate template. All you need do is copy, paste, arrange, and deliver to a sign maker and hey presto, adhesive plates.
Can't get much easier than that.
For everyone else, should we have a funny number plate competition, or should I get out more? No real need to answer that.
