grp & gell coat
should I continue trying to polish this , or is the gell coat damaged.

i'm not grp expert, but it looks a bit like its polished through the gel coat

yep you have gone through the gel coat. you could apply more gel coat over then blend in but the problem is getting it to set correctly and also be
the same colour.
Anything With Tits or Wheels Will cost you MONEY!!
