Finally gone for a full screen
OK, I've done it: wimped out and bought a full screen (btw my aeroscreen is for sale
here).
I found a heated Caterham screen and stanchions and fitted it this afternoon:
Mirrors, tax disc, side repeaters and aeroscreen off
New windscreen on... after quite a lot of measuring, gentle rebending of the stanchions, drilling, etc...
Repositioned mirrors and side repeaters.
I went for a quick drive and, as expected, there is a fair amount of wind round the side, so I made up a wind deflector for the driver's side.
Need to test it tomorrow.
I've got to take it off again for the time being as I've got my MOT on Wednesday and I haven't got washers, wipers, etc.
Still to do:
Make a second wind deflector... maybe
Replace the bolts with button head/coutersunk hex head ones
Fill up all the spare holes in the scuttle and paint it
Plumb in the heated screen (maybe)
Fit wipers and washer (maybe)

Hate to get heavy, dude, but safety is paramount! If you don´t care about yours, then fine, but there are others who use the highways who might not
want a 500KG rocket firing into them because the driver is blinded by a windscreen that´s been hit with the sun, mud, flies, water, etc!

Even with wipers you are still likely to get caught out in a sudden downpour where it's almost impossible to see but not safe to stop . Happened
to me and Geoff (Wilkingj ) a couple of years ago when on the way to the Newark show on the A1

I've got wipers and wash on my car and I've never used them in anger.....
It was quite amusing the one time I used the wash though (ie to test it), the jet blasts into the screen with such force that it atomises the washer
fluid which then turbulates into the cockpit (if there is such a word!!). Instant face wash!!! Makes my glasses go all misty!!
I'll have to replace the windscreen washer fluid with something more tasty!!!

Yup, been there, got the t-shirt. Had the wipers on full wallop but still couldn't see where I was going. Partially due to misting occuring on
the inside of the screen due to lower pressure (and no heater) and also due to road spray being sucked round the screen onto the inside of the screen
(need internal wipers too!!!)... It was bad, sersiouly bad!!! At one point the road I was on turned into dual carriageway and I couldn't see
enough to realise!!!! Until a car came hooning up my chuff.....

Ive driven back for Stoneleigh with no wipers and it rained the whole way right up to Alba. Not fun
The wash bottle is another thing ...On macspeedys bec you get sprayed if you accelerate really hard We discovered this odd problem at Crail
I cant stand aeroscreens as much as I dont like bikes without fairings.
I would rather put up with a bit of buffeting than the 70mph blast.##
I have a jacket with a tall collar and that sorts that problem out
I have studied why buffeting is worse in a locost than the caterham.......And its the cockpit and driver position.
I have a locost that has the pedals to the rear of the fire wall.....cat has pedals forward of this bulkhead. This is where the differances show up.
This puts the driver closer to the windscreen moving you further from this vortex that comes off the top corner of the screen....

Hi,
What caterham was the screen off of. I am looking to do a similar thing shortly, but I am very nervous that I may spend a lot of money on a screen
that doesn't fit. I will be fitting it to a Luego Velocity XT. Any advice greatly appreciated. The caterham heated screens are only
marginallymore expensive than the £350 I was quoted from Luego when I asked.

The Caterham was a 2000 S3 Roadsport. I don't know if there are any other types.sizes of screen, but the key measurement seems to be between the
lower points of the screen - on my one it is 91cm, which is marginally too much, but the gap is pretty much filled with the rubber seal along the
bottom edge. If you manage to get the stanchions as well, you will probably have to bend them a little to fit the specific shape of the Velocity
scuttle.

Old Luego brought their screens from Lolocost for the Luego Locost which I think uses the same screen as the Velocity. At the time I got mine
Lolocost were charging £65 Luego charged £125?

Mine has a standard size locost bulkhead and a Westfield SE (I think that is the wider pre-litigation) is a good fit, the narrow one is miles away.
It does depend on the shape of the bulkhead of course, mine tapers in slightly at the top before the curve starts.
Makes a car look more complete, for me the trouble was water on the inside, need wipers on both sides in the rain!

Hopefully useful information. The scuttle on the Velocity is taller than the luego locost, I think.
Not sure what difference that makes. If the same screen then may consider the lolocost option.
Why do it the easy way, when I can do things my way!
