stone guards-how high

Morning all

Just looking purely from an asthetic view at how high the stone guards should go up the rear arch.

I was considering trying to get the top level with the side rail of the car but I'm not sure that's high enough to be practical for protecting the rear arches.

Can anyone who has stone guards fitted give me an idea of how tall their gaurds are and whether you feel they're the right height/too short etc.

I think this short spell of reasonable weather has got the old enthusiasm going again.

Many thanks
Nigel

I reckon Westfield got their rear stone gaurds about right.

On our Indy, we originally fitted some rather short stoneguards but after getting the rear arches stonechipped we had some carbon ones made up that were considerably higher. I've got a picture somewhere which I'll dig out and post later.

Ulitmatly the stone gaurds arnt just leval 1 aethetic items, because they actually do get a pelting. So from both an aethetic and a practical point of view, they have to cover most of it!

Ive got stainless ones (ie Hard metal) and they have all sorts of little dings and scratches.

Worst thing was the large stone that got thrown up on my very first drive out. Made a 2" diameter spider web crack about 3" above the top of the stone guards. Just my luck.

Make them Big... they are cheaper to replace than a set of rear wings. (use the old guards as a pattern as it saves new holes in the wings).

If i had known better iwould of made mine taller to. Pici coming up.
 completed car.
completed car.

As you can see they are too low and i am getting chips on the wheel arch, not big ones but lots of small marks.

I track day'ed a Tiger with guards like this, and they were raw metal when we finished. No stone chips on the arches though, so this height is probably god enough.

Got out in the garage last night and to replicate some of the photos seen here I'll need a stone guard nearly 450mm - 500mm long to provide the kind of protection mentioned taking into account the curve of the arch

That kind of puts the price of the carbon into the silly money bracket which will be difficult to get past the money monster (wife)

May neded to rethink the design to reduce the cost, shame I think it would of looked really good.
