Black or yellow wings?
jamesbond007ltk - 8/2/07 at 12:58 PM

Ok, just took delivery of my new cycle wings from emsfactory. Very nice shape, workmanship and finish. Not to mention beatifully packed.
Anyway, the thing is they are black whereas the rest of my fibreglass bits are yellow.
Kind of like the idea of black, other than nightime visibility for on coming cars. but also like the idea of matching wings and nosecone!

Though i'd ask you guys to help me decide.

So, do i keep them black or paint them to match nosecone, scuttle and rear wings?

Also, does the lip go on the leading edge or the trailing edge? my old ones were lipped back and front.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

i'd lip front, you're more likely to put your hand there so its safer.

As I'm building a Yellow car with Black cycle wings and rear arches I'm saying keep them Black

macnab - 8/2/07 at 01:45 PM

handy for my car also, I voted black

ReMan - 8/2/07 at 01:52 PM

Undoubtedly black! But then I'm biased

Wings Black Nose yellow, if you are worried abouyt outline visibility get some little white LED lights to stick on the front arches or even some ScotchBrite reflective tape I think cycle shops and motorcycle places have this for additional night time visibility.

I went though this kind of thing and the consensus but by no means rule is to stick to 2 colours max.

as your side panels, rear arch protectors and bonnet are natural aluminium, that counts as 1 colour, yellow being the other.

so my votes was ....

... yellow

I get your point. That was what i was thinking. Problem is my bonnet may become yellow at some point soon. So now even more confusing!

Guess i could just put them on black and then change later. Much easier that the other way around!

After a shakey start the yellows are beginning to catch up with the blacks!

Guess i should just put them on black and change later if i dont like it

Yellow for me unless you paint the rear ones black to match..... looks kinda odd when mixed

Dave J - 8/2/07 at 03:24 PM

I prefer black, but paint the rears to match. I'd also co ordinate the roll bar making that black too.
A bit of gloss black here and there is quite classy in my view.

Cheers

Dave

Keep them black. You already have black parts on the car so it won't look odd. It looks OK black in your photoshop. Its easier to do nothing than to change them. If the finish in black is so good, will you ruin it by painting them yellow. Will you get a good colour match? It will look worse with different shades of yellow.

zetec - 8/2/07 at 04:31 PM

I'd say yellow, paint . Just my view but black might make it look a bit of a "parts bin special" with the ali bonnet.

VW thought this was a good idea...yeah right......keep em black Rescued attachment poopolo.jpg

Mine's black at the front and yellow at the back. Looks quite good, but the bodywork matches to make a yellow arrow effect.

YELLOW

worX - 8/2/07 at 09:09 PM

I thought definately black until I saw that photoshopped image - now yellow gets a shakey vote...

novacaine - 9/2/07 at 04:16 PM

i would personaly say yellow but then my opinion doesnt realy count because i am close to being clinicaly insane

jamesbond007ltk - 9/2/07 at 04:31 PM

Bugger!

Vote is pretty much even
The photoshop has put me off the idea of black
Dont want to have to paint the rear wings as they will get chipped to pieces from stones etc.
Weather is too rubbish for painting anyway. I have no heating in my workshop!

Thanks for all the ideas guys, given something to chew over.

Got to make the brackets yet anyway.

Unless somone has got a pair or wings stays for Cortina hubs they are looking to liquidate?

sorry im a bit late on this thred

it depends on the colour of your wheels and if you have low profile tyres or not.

escort_innit - 18/2/07 at 10:26 AM

I voted yellow, three colours would look too fussy.

Peteff - 18/2/07 at 10:37 AM

Black and yellow chevron tape, like they use to mark the edges of hazards
