Securing Brake Pipes to Rear Axle
The Doc - 26/8/06 at 09:57 PM

Still not sure what to do about this. Anyone got any more elegant ideas than welding on new tabs? Has anyone drilled and P clipped here? Any oil leak issues?

i was lucky enough to have all the tabs still on my axle.. i did still think about a bit of extra security.. i have a kit so i can make the metal cv boot type clips to any size i need.. i was gonna use a couple wrapped around the axle + pipe. I dont know if they would be sva ok, but i can not see the pipes moving, and they are perminant as made out of stainless. I could make a couple up for you if you are interested in trying.

cheers,
Ross

I'm just going to tack weld new ones on with my MIG welder...

I don't think you will do better than tabs welded to the axle casing. They are neat and effective. There will be no problem burning through the casing when you are welding 18 gauge tabs to it.

There was another thread about this recently. I and some other people used large jubilee clips, with some appropriate sleeving on the brake pipes themselves

I think I'll try the jubilee clip idea. The problem is really that I didn't realise cable ties for this were out. Consequently all my pipes are nice and neatly in place and the system filled with fluid. I really need a solution whereby I can secure the pipes without removal etc. Jubilee clips with some kind of tab welded on sounds good to me. Thanks all

You could use a series of jubilee clips to hold down a steel strip along the axle tube, upon which you could fix rubber-covered P-clips.

Hey - how about this:
Good quality jubilee clips (the heavier ones) drill & countersunk on the inside 3/4 mm c/sunk bolt poking outward on which to mount P Clip?

I've drilled an tapped the rear axle, no oil leaks so far, It must be don witht he axle clean to wash out the swaff.

axle finally finished
axle finally finished
