HELP NEEDED WITH BACKLIGHTS!!
tks - 6/6/06 at 09:00 AM

OK,

i´m trying to make my lights as the donkervoorts ones...

in a round tube the FITA coupe lights.

I paid a really lot for them 150pounds..
(they are original)

But i have problems with this:
- finding the right tube: Drain water systems use 110mm Interior the lights goes sow it doesn´t "flange" / rest on the tube!

i found kitchen thin gasses tube wall thickness of 1mm?

- cutting the tube to the radius of my luego rear wings

what should i do? i already drilled up 75%
of the wings, sow i have 2 options.

Go on with the thin tube, paint it all in car color, use glue kit, etc.. and make it a worthy job.

or try to find some light modules and take my loss??

Any one advice?

where could i see if there are any light modules that could hide my drills

need a with of +/- 195mm

I don't know what the "FITA" (do you mean FIAT?) light look like.

but...
Could you not make the tube by bending a flat (and thin! ) sheet of ali. And get someone to TIG weld it together for you!

Or get a tube with smaller internal diamter but greater external thickness- and get someone to turn out the inside on a lathe.

Alternatively, there was a guy on here who did this on his car.... but I have no idea who it was!!! Someone else may know...
I remember it was a silver car!

We used black thick wall subterrainian electrical conduit for our back lights. We had to reduce diameter by using dovetail system but it works admirably.

These?

tks - 6/6/06 at 06:07 PM

They are from the fiat Coupe

mhhh hellfire dunno your trick could you explain?

I want to make them like the donkervoort
(its that grey car james talks about)

but how do i cut the round wing shape to tht round tube?

i have 3 done, the last is really a pain,
looks like the wing is different then the other...

i could also use some good advice on some stuff that i could mold and wich would then be hardened by itself en then everything could be painted (in the colour of the car)

anyone??

Look we see the wing shape and the tube! the tube is pretty long at the above side i guess some 200mm
at the untherside its much less (the minimum) else the bulb housing touches the wing)

How could i copy that wing shape to the tube? to be able to cut the tube then with the grinder?? Rescued attachment LightsProblem.JPG

Could you mold something to the shape of the wing and then draw round this to leave the cutting iline on the tube. Or just use the old trial and error technique. Ie cut to what looks right, then match to wing with a file.

but its sow diffciult because if it touches you think you need to take away but many times you should have left before

the situation isn't easy with a 100mm round tube..
