Bonnet Hinging

Has anyone hinged one side of the bonnet pannel so that the bonnet does not have to be removed every time you access the engine bay. Just opened and stayed in position.
I was considering hinging the bonnet with slip pin hinges so that total removal is easy when required, but i feel the pannel will be easily damaged with continual removal every time you just want to check the oil.

The hinge side would need to be reinforced and possibly strips accross the width of the bonnet if it flexes too much.

Thoughts please.

I guess you could use sidescreen type hinges. to be honest, I find removing the bonnet is not a big problem.

Removing the bonnet is fine and I have had no problems.

One thing to remember - when you take it off lay it flat. If you stand it on end the smallest breeze will blow it over and scratch it!!

My biggest tip when removing bonnet is MAKE SURE YOU SECURE THE FCUKA BACK ON

My mates bonnet came flying off and damaged it a bit

Ooh and glad you've spoken like a 'TRUE' Alfa owner - only you guys would consider the 'hinge' requirement - Alfa = bonnet lifter

I had a go with my MK bonnet. I reinforced the bonnet across the width with aluminium strips and where the hinges were mounted, but unfortunately it still cracked the GRP! I know it can be done but depends what the bonnet is constructed of and the amount of work you want to do reinforcing it. I reverted to the conventional straps in the end!
