Popped what I hoped to be the final part out of the mould today...Came out pretty good if I say so myself.

Looks really good mate.

Did you use wax in the end?

Pat...

stevebubs - 12/3/06 at 10:49 PM

It's a friggin great bulge for my fury bonnet.

Pat - Yes, I used wax in the end.

Humbug - 12/3/06 at 10:59 PM

How big is it (oo-er!)? - I mean the bonnet bulge

I might be in the market for something like that...

Cheers

Looks good mate - some perserverance there!!!

I remember seeing the 2 tonne filler version way back in December

Which end would that be? I bet you're not going into production after the time it's taken to get that one done .

Approx 22in x 22in - will measure more accurately tomorrow for you.

The one in the picture is scuplted to the Fury Bonnet. However, I do have a buck that's the same shape but designed to go on a flat surface.

Actually, making the parts are easy - it's the blooming buck I've had trouble with. However that's done now..the part pictured above took about 2 hours work in laminating and gelcoating (over about 10 hours). Shining it up took about 30 minutes. Not a perfect finish, but not too bad.

Need to try and get a better colour match, so will probably be making another as soon as I can get the pigment.

Cheers... btw, I have just started a new job based in Reading, so maybe I could come and have a look at your bulge sometime (oo-er again!)

Steve,

Looks like your hard work is paying off - well done.

Ned.

No probs - where in Reading are you working?

stevebubs - 13/3/06 at 12:51 PM

Colour match in the picture below looks better than it is (bulge is quite a bit lighter than the rest of the car)

Do wet lay CF now that you have a mould.

Use clear gel, one layer of CF and 2 layers of normal CSM.

Polish to gloss finish after.

stevebubs - 13/3/06 at 09:23 PM

Black / CF effect would definitely be an option.

Want to see if I can get a good match from West & Senior first, though....

Avoneer - 14/3/06 at 01:33 AM

I'm gonna wet lay up some small pieces of CF in the next week or two to see what sort of finish I can get.

One with clear gel to polish.

One without.

One under pressure.

One with core matt to ass volume.

Will let you know what happens.
