recessed gauges my bollocks!

why oh why do we have to put thick, ugly padding on the dash and around the gauges when there is something like this on the streets?

i mean, this could take an eye off if there weren't any steering wheel! so whats the point in padding the otherwise safe guages and switches?? i mean' they're behind the steering wheel. there no way you hit them before you hit the steering wheel in case of an accident Rescued attachment 24-02-06_1222.jpg

in the UK SVA test, there is an area behind the wheel that is exempt from the sharp edges rule.

wheel radius + 127mm iirc. it still has to be blunted, but not 2.5mm rad.

In crashes peoples hands often come off the wheel and punch whatever is in front of the wheel. Those gauges would hurt in that situation . Oh well, thats never stopped me from doing custom clusters similar to that. Sure glad we don't have any "anti-pointy stuff" laws here . Sounds like a PITA.
