Racetech Mirrors and SVA
flak monkey - 6/1/06 at 01:36 PM

I know these have been discussed before but here goes again...

I have been given a pair of Racetech single seater mirrors for free!

People have said they will not pass SVA in the past. They certainly meet the minimum reflective surface as set out in the manual.

Minimum is (section 10, 3d) 40mm high and 70mm wide. The Racetech ones measure 50mm by 110mm.

The only 2 issues I can see are:

1) that they have very short stems, so may not be long enough. Surely they can be extended with a nice bit of ali?

2) they may not meet the radius requirements around the glass. Surely this can be fixed with a but of edging?

Comments?

Cheers,
David

Do they have to be E marked or satisfy some other safety mark?

If in doubt fit some s/h scrapyard jobbies for SVA and swap over afterwards

I recall someone saying they had to have a two bolt mounting rather than the single.

I have a pair of SVA legal mirrors on my car that i want to change for racetech units or similar.
They are two bolt jobbies with a long stem just right for the SVA.
If you want to do a straight swap that'll be fine by me.
Let me know and I;'ll take a picture and email it to you.
You can have a look in my photo archive for a general idea

Cheers

Might take you up on that offer Paul. Am just curious to see if they can be modified to pass SVA. If so then I will keep them as I have the facilities at home to make extensions etc for them.

The manual says they must either be e-marked or meet the requirements which are outlined in section 10, part 3. The only one I can see which they will fail on is radii in various places, but those things are an easy fix...

Anyone tried to put a car through SVA with them on and got a list of reasons why they were failed?

Yes that is a locost go kart in the background awaiting an engine and yes my garage has a radiator and carpet

No point being cold or uncomfortable when working ( I've had plenty of experience of that!!!)

What mirrors are they from Paul?

Thanks,

Pat...

they look decidedly like R1 mirrors to me.

anyway, the racetech mirrors fail on the fact that they can't support a 70mm vertical line somewhere parrallel to the 40mm vertical, as shown in the pic.

at my sva, it was picked up on because pat's avon mirrors could only support a line about 69mm. a bit of friendly banter and the benefit of the doubt was given, since the extra holes in the scuttle made it pretty clear different mirrors were going on after the test anyway.

Cheers Tom.

Looks like they will just have to go on after the test then. I will hang on to them and fit them later.
