Got my dash glassed to my scuttle and blended in and all previous holes and cracks etc. filled.
Is the next step about 1000 wet 'n dry and then some form of primer to see all the sh1tty bits?
Then what's next???
I am after a shiny metallicy gray look so what's the eaiest way for a non-sprayer person like myself to get a resonable finish.

This is how far I have got so far without reading anything.
It's painted in that filler primer.
My methods may all dramatically change once I have read Ant's article and the ones in the Locost Car Club Newsletter.

As I'll only be using cans, I'll have to see what happens.

Pat, best to pre fit everything before you paint it because drilling/cutting holes will chip the paint.....

Pat - if you want to borrow a compressor and spray gun give me a shout. If you want to go that way it may be best to do all the GRP bits at the same time to save thinners for washing the gun out.

The plan is:
Wet 'n' dry the scuttle.
Spray the scuttle with a couple of layers of metallic silver with a Halfords can.
Very fine wet 'n' dry.
Use a compressor and gun to add a few coats of lacquer with some metallic flake thrown in the lacquer. Would this work and what about lacquer
compatability with the Halfords can stuff.

Pat, I may be wrong, but I believe its possible to go to an Auto body paint specialist and have your choice of paint put in aerosol cans.
That way, they can advise you on which type of paint is suitable for spraying fibreglass and obviously, be able to supply the appropriate lacquer.
However, I don't know how prices would compare to buying 'off the shelf' at Halfords etc.

Certainly the case that the local paint supplier in Ipswich will put paint in spray cans - good cans too, with a proper fan spray pattern.
Only 1-part paints of course! (cellulose, or air-dry acrylic). 2-pack wouldn't last very long in an aerosol...

Do you think these guys would put metal flake in their lacquer before sealing the can?

I would very much doubt that you could have metalflake put into an aerosol as the particles would just clog up the nozzle. Gotta be worth asking
tho' I s'pose!
You will need to spray the lacquer with metalflake in it with a compressor and gun. It will give a much better and controllable finish anyway.
