compact heater from China
axle - 7/5/18 at 10:23 PM

Hi all

I am thinking of fitting a heater in my 7 after a lot of searching I found this on ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/21X-Universal-Copper-Car-Underdash-Compact-Heater-12V-24V-Heat-w-Speed-Switch/322574265334?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144 />

It seems a good price , but I am a bit worried if I have to pay import tax & handling charge to PO which can really inflate the price.

I wondered if any one else has a better idea or has made this purchase?

T7 do somedecentheaters. Yes, more expensive, but you woulddn't haveto worryabout paying the taxes, and you would have backup/warranty from a proper company.
Very much a case of "are you feeling lucky"

(The fans on the chinese one look like PC fans. Hope that is not the case....)

Car Builder Solutions have several too, UK back up, proven product and what you see is what you pay. Yes they cost £100 more but sometimes you get what you pay for IMHO

I looked that those as well and ruled them out. I'm currently in the process of trying to make a heater from a Saxo fit with a lot of chopping down. I figured something with a proper fan might work a bit better.

So are the T7 ones, you can see the model number in some of the pics.
It's a standard fan on a lot of Dell servers.

Interesting, but I guess they are long lived. The chinese heater appears to have fans about 60mm diamter, at least the intake is that size. That wont shift much air!

That was my concern. This is my fan:

@axle I think I still have a new Heat 2 from car builder solutions that I've never used. If so I could do a good price on it for you if interested?

They appear to have a double squirrel cage fan?

I've looked at the Chinese ones on eBay and they can be had for as low as £35. As others have said I don't think the airflow would be sufficient from those fans. The gaps around the heart matrix look poor too, so as others have said probably not good enough quality to survive in a kit. The T7 design looks much stronger and better made, and is pretty compact. With the fan party number from that image you could get any heater matrix and enclosure and make your own if you feel ambitiously low cost! Or the one from car builder solutions sounds like another compact and lightweight option.

I do have a new heat 2 and the 4 port outlet plenum as per below bought for a project last year and not used.

Have you seen episode 16 of Project Binky?
Food for thought.

I have the T7 one fitted in mine and works a treat.

Well built and puts out plenty of heat.
