Headlight Alignment?????
avagolen - 7/6/14 at 07:03 PM

I am looking at setting my headlights.

I am having trouble seeing an image on a board set in front of the car that is clear enough to adjust them.

What are you folks do?

Thanks in advance.

Len

I mark it out on a brick wall with a bit of chalk and wait until it gets dark

Thanks guys.

My headlights don't seem to producing a clear image so that I can see the cut-off or horizontal line.

do them one at a time, (blank one off...) and ensure you check at a distance of several (3...8) metres
(and yes darkness will make it easier

This is a photo - slightly worse than the real image, but you see my problem.

And yes it is the dipped beam.

as I said, it needs to be much further away

I Will have another go after I have drunk this excellent cup of tea I have just brewed.

Further away and make sure the bulbs are in correctly

Thanks - especially to Gremlin

(& swmbo who said all along) to move the car further away from the target.

Good image that was easily adjusted.

Difficult to be sure from the photo as it could be glare but... That looks like a fitting/connection/dodgy bulb

Be sure the bulbs are properly seated and not cocked over.
Are they wired correctly. It could be you have both filaments on together if you've mistakenly wired them up wrong (earth is one of the side contacts, not the middle one which is the usual mistake)

If that doesn't help try some different (quality ones from a known source) bulbs.
We see poor bulbs all the time at work where people have replaced them and the pattern is crap. It can be misaligned filament/cutoff plate in the bulb or poor masking paint on the end... and don't touch the glass when fitting.
