Humbug - 16/5/10 at 05:31 PM

The bulge on the top is OK (a bit aircrafty, if you know what I mean). I don't like the hole in the nose much TBH

fesycresy - 16/5/10 at 05:32 PM

Is that one of those things they cook fish in?

Sorry mate, doesn't do it for me.

RAYLEE29 - 16/5/10 at 05:33 PM

looks very well made whats under the bulge?
not to my taste though
nosecone looks very well made too
Ray

Toniq-r - 16/5/10 at 05:34 PM

Put some 3m Carbon skin on it It would look better!

omega0684 - 16/5/10 at 05:35 PM

are you hiding the world biggest hot dog Jon?

skinned knuckles - 16/5/10 at 05:42 PM

good effort but to be honest i wouldn't have it on mine. that seems like one hell of a big duct and v-large bulge(fnar fnar)

Mal - 16/5/10 at 05:46 PM

If you made the bulge yourself how didiyou do it?

Cheers,

Mal

speedyxjs - 16/5/10 at 05:51 PM

Not sure on the bonnet bulge but love the nose

mookaloid - 16/5/10 at 05:55 PM

if it's there for a reason - and I'm sure it is, then it looks perfectly ok to me

It gives it that home brewed but high performance look

omega 24 v6 - 16/5/10 at 06:01 PM

Sorry mate but to be honest and break it to you gently IT LOOKS SHITE. IMHO sorry but at least I was subtle with my comment. I do like the nose duct though.
I reckon if you needed to ask us then you were not too happy with it yourself if you are honest.

r1_pete - 16/5/10 at 06:04 PM

Its got a functional rawness which I do like, could you have mounted it from underneath instead, so as not to have the lip all the way round, may just take the edge off it.....

Jon Ison - 16/5/10 at 06:04 PM

Its covering the airbox which does stick out the bonnet 2 1/2", I have thought of having the bonnet vinyl wrapped.

To be honest sometimes I like it sometimes I dont, I,m really not sure myself, I guess if your not sure your not really happy with it, trouble is what else to do ? The airbox works so I'm not into moving that for the sake of looks.

As for the hole in the nose, that's staying I'm happy with that bit.

Stuart_B - 16/5/10 at 06:07 PM

i do not like the bulge, but the nose looks great.

maybe a scoop not a bulge?

stuart

Jon Ison - 16/5/10 at 06:08 PM

what would happen if I blended in round the rim then went for a vinyl wrap ?

907 - 16/5/10 at 06:08 PM

Hi Jon,

Just my opinion, doesn't mean it's right, but I think that if you were to come through with the bulge from the underside it would look better.

When sat on top you see two edges. The edge of the flange and the crease where the shape starts.

With the flange inside the engine bay you would only see one edge. Neater IMHO.

Cheers

zilspeed - 16/5/10 at 06:09 PM

I wouldn't change any of the two of them one iota.

They're both there to do a job and don't look like some of the overblown flashness you often see.

Keep both of them.
They're both your work, be proud of them.

well done.

Jon Ison - 16/5/10 at 06:21 PM

I had thought of coming up from underneath, but me been me the hole is a bit in wrong place so cant, not without moving engine or making another bonnet, here's a pic from back, I'm going to have to learn to live with it, summers nearly here, fill edges and vinyl wrap, opinions ? honest ones. Steve Hignett - 16/5/10 at 06:24 PM

I would have mounted from underneath as others have said...

Although having said that - if the hole from the inside is flush to the start of the airbox scoop then that would be the right way round of doing it if you wanted to use your bonnet as a mould and make it out of something else - carbon fibre, for instance

Drop me a U2U if you fancy having a crack at it

r1_pete - 16/5/10 at 06:26 PM

No, leave it as it is, as I said befor, it looks functional.....

mangogrooveworkshop - 16/5/10 at 06:45 PM

I think that's OK It would look more finished if it was lip under. But these cars are made for a function....
If you want something polished and smooth buy a westy Have you a grill to put over your v duct...to stop small kids being sucked in?

Xtreme Kermit - 16/5/10 at 07:01 PM

i say go with the wrap.

Here's an idea for the image

minitici - 16/5/10 at 07:01 PM

I like the functional look.

Staple balls - 16/5/10 at 07:09 PM

I like it, looks functional.

Could probably use something like this on the nose though

mmmmmm, got me thinking that one.......

Ivan - 16/5/10 at 07:28 PM

I think it looks OK but a well finished air box sticking through a hole in the bonnet would look even better and explain to the viewer what is happening

TimC - 16/5/10 at 07:30 PM

Jon,

If I were you I'd get Bryn to weld it in place then paint it to match the nose.

TC

Andybarbet - 16/5/10 at 07:57 PM

I like it, looks like a very good job, if i tried that it really would look poo.

Only comment from me is i reckon if the back of the bulge was open (windscreen end) it would let some heat out of the engine bay and still look good.

It goes really well with all the other ali panels on your car.

SteveWalker - 16/5/10 at 08:24 PM

I think it's fine, but I'd have edged the cut-out and put the bulge in from below.

JoelP - 16/5/10 at 08:27 PM

looks fine to me.

David Jenkins - 17/5/10 at 06:36 AM

Sorry Jon, I think it looks a bit odd... fine workmanship, but it just doesn't look right.

Not sure I can suggest any alternative, so feel free to ignore my opinion entirely!

Irony - 17/5/10 at 08:08 AM

I must admit it looks a bit off. Fine craftmanship as stated above. Also as stated above if you have to ask you already know.

Is there something cool under there. Perhaps you could get some clear plastic vacuum formed into that shape. That would be a easy job to make as you already have the mould in the form of the ali bit you've already made.

:{THC}:YosamiteSam - 20/5/10 at 10:52 AM

you could try looking at the westy V8 engine cover - its a bulged centre bit with air intake at front - look at carbon mods for pics - (forget the price i know)

Fred W B - 20/5/10 at 11:28 AM

How about making a similar bulge, but from stainless mesh? Might lessen the visual bulk, but still obscure / cover the greasy bits/sharp edges and as a bonus also allow some airflow?

Cheers
