Wider body panels - Much wider
speedyxjs - 17/3/10 at 07:08 PM

Well after my previous thread, i think i may have to give up on my full bodied front end for my locost and move to a more conventional looking seven.

My major problem is i am on a seriously tight budget (hence trying the £25 front end) and seven wings and noses arnt cheap in the standard size and i need a 6" wider nose and much bigger arches (to fit 225/60/16 tyres)

You're going to have to cut and shut the nose and wings anyway... so you might aswell buy secondhand and fill any damage at the same time.

Cheers,
James

Speedy said he wanted seven wings - not seven foot wings

Would normal wings fit my bigger tyres?

Worth having a play with some fiberglass and cutting and extending some std sized bits?
(could then possibly get away with buying slightly damaged panels?)

Regards
Rob

MNR supply 260mm cycle wings, and the ABS is much better for taking a bash than GRP. Also it takes polyurathane paint like s**t to a blanket

Easy to widen a nose cone, wiggly cut down the middle, space the two halves then brace, gaffa tape between the halfs and backfill with fibreglass, may add a few rods for strength.

When all hardened pull off the tape and fill.

My nosecone has a couple of inches added.

Make MDF/hardboard moulds for wings.

Allow £50 for resin, matting etc and buy in bulk + £25 for a scabby nosecone.

Simon did a good write up on wings Rescued attachment 10sept2006.JPG

I think the cycle wings russbost sells for the Furore should fit.
See last post in this thread for sizes

For the nosecone you could have a go at making your own.

2nd hand damaged panels from racers/folk on here and repair is a good cheap way forward.

i got mine from race drivers, pretty much free really. a complete set of new panels is like £3500... yes, some of them were actually broken in half, and badly repaired, or smashed up, but still a lot cheaper. you could easily get a damaged nose, cut it in half, widen it, and stick it all back together

Dangle_kt - 17/3/10 at 08:46 PM

sey of free wings (as mentioned on other thread) for you to "experiement" on speedy if you want em?

Oooh, yes please!

This just backs up what was posted here.

This thread was posted at 7:08 and now less than 2 hours later i have been offered a nose cone and a set of wings to play with.

This just shows what a fantastic forum this really is
