honest opinions please - poll
speedyxjs - 26/12/09 at 09:10 PM

Iv had a play with the pics bj928 posted a week or so ago and have come up with a more accurate view of what my car will look like with my tr6 style front end.

ETA - any advice on how to improve it are very welcome (and no one say stick to an original look!)

Why that??

It looks really unblanced if im honest

speedyxjs - 26/12/09 at 09:14 PM

How do you mean unbalanced?

Xtreme Kermit - 26/12/09 at 09:19 PM

think the waist is a bit narrow.

Plump it out a bit in the middle and it may improve the balance.

speedyxjs - 26/12/09 at 09:21 PM

Well the original drawing (before i considered modifying the wings) looked like this Rescued attachment Locost plan.JPG

speedyxjs - 26/12/09 at 09:31 PM

Its a shame 'cos the wings looked quite good on the car. Rescued attachment SA501117.JPG

My car has a narrow chassis but full width front and rear section, so narrow waisted if you like.
It's a tricky thing to pull off I would have thought.

Your car, being larger proportioned and using the Jag bits sort of begs to be styled sort of, oh I don't know, just like the car in your avatar to be honest.

Id love to do that but there is no way i could afford the body work off one of them!

ETA - It doesnt look too bad on your car!

Well you better get used to the idea that there's an awfully long road ahead reagarding bodywork.

The full width front and rear have to naturally lead into a nipped in waist.
Say what you like about the Sylva, but it does that well.

Not mine- very similar car.

And also ETA yes, it does look ok with mine. Side and rear 3/4 certainly work well.

I'm no bodywork expert but a good friend is and any time I speak to him on the subject, the common denominator is always time and effort.
You're either building a larger locost or supplying lots of the two of those.

^^^ Thanks for that. I have always like the look of the Sylva (except for the front). I havnt made the rear wings yet so may have a go at doing a similar thing (should help the aerodynamics a bit too )

Me too

Rip off someone else, I often dreamt of a 7 rebody (probably after a childhood of doing it to RC cars, Umm inferno DX with a 1/8 ITC Alfa 155 body on it)

Westfield sort of did one,

I think the key to car design in profile is to have a slope in the bonnet between the front of the windscreen to the centre point of the front wheels (as in not like any tvr or mgb (and 7's but they don't count because they are designed to be simple) as car tend to look lazy without it

Lazy TVR

It can slope up or down but must do something IMO

As for the top view try and make it flow a bit more, maybe mould the rear wings in a bit more, if you give it a bit more meat down the sides you could make some stowage/elbow space like this AGM WLR

I think a modernised version of this Lister would make a nice body conversion for a Jag based kit car

The plan view picture sucks but the wings don't look too bad on the car

Have a play with some card and the wings- it might just work out!

Cheers

This may give you an idea or two, (or not), I rebuilt my Dutton Melos to have a fully filled in front and did it like this. Just an idea! HTH Ray

Just what I thought, your idea looks good in the real photo but the drawing does no favours as it is difficult to picture it.

I love that Lister, I'm dreaming of driving over the moors in that

Ok, il cut the wings up (only cost £25 anyway) and get them propped up on the car then take some more pics and go from there. I made some plans last night for what the rear wings would look like. Something along the lines of the sylva.

Thanks for all your help guys!

lol, Sorry speedy!

Oooh, nice! 1 (2.56%)
Mmmm, its ok 6 (15.38%)
No thanks, not for me 13 (33.33%)
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!!! 19 (48.72%)

What about a fibreglass widened one piece Midget shell? Similar look to the TR, lightweight and youll hide your exhaust, and have somewhere to put a pair of fuel tanks, oil coolers etc??

Dale - 28/12/09 at 05:57 PM

Needs to be more balanced and flowing. I would extend the rear fenders to the back of the car. Lenthen the front fenders back to the scuttle and add running boards or small side pods that flow to the rear fenders. Not a big change but makes it look vastly more even I think.
