How do you like this? - Matt Black and Polished Alloy 7
Fred W B - 19/12/09 at 04:47 PM

I mentioned a while ago that I was trying to talk a friend into painting the fiberglass bits on his 7 in matt black, to contrast with the polished ally.

He finally went with it and has just finished a protracted rebuild of the car.

The car is a copy of a very early 7 (no tunnel structure at all, just two straps over the prop) built in Cape Town in the 70's. Dry sump crossflow, herald uprights, 14" wheels.

Cheers

very nice

intruiged by this tunnel/prop arrangement. any pics of that?

honestly, its not my cup of tea. Although I do think it'd look cool with brushed ally instead of polished.

quote:

tunnel/prop arrangement

We are used to seeing a steel framework in the center of the car, around the propshaft, that is then panelled

Here the "transmission tunnel" between the seats is just panelling, attached to two flatbar straps in a hoop shape that are the only provision to retain the prop in the case of mishap

Thats been built from the lotus s2 plans that circulated SA for years. Its also got the droopy snoot nose that was available locally from those lads in Port Elizabeth.....cant remember the names Think Ronnie Mortimer had moulds for the clams as well.

The only place the overall chassis differs is the rear deck/backend from those plans.(Its a bit flatter and the bottom doesnt kick up)
Its a very nice replica and the dash is spot on

Now just send us back the weather so we can go out again.....snows here till weds

I think it works well.
Is that a Tiger next door?

MikeCapon - 19/12/09 at 07:10 PM

Nice car. Looks good.

Does no one have wipers in SA then?

snippy - 19/12/09 at 09:02 PM

Yeah that is a Tiger. Am I right in thinking it is Andy Rist`s Tiger who emigrated to S.A. 2 years back? If so give him my regards.

I likes it Nice

I like the contrast a lot. I've got a new project and that'll be either matt or satin black.

Fred W B - 20/12/09 at 05:55 AM

Mango - thanks for the info, this car actually had clam shell wings until a while ago

Mike - Re wipers, most people do have them, they are not yet fitted back onto the black car.

Nick - Yea that is Andrew's Tiger. Andrew does a lot of work getting the local 7's together for runs etc.

Cheers

Nice, keeping that matt black clean must be a PITA tho.
