Polycarbonate Cycle Wings, Etc... ???
scootz - 15/12/09 at 04:14 PM

Quite fancy doing something 'minimalist' with the Quantum... the thought of clear polycarbonate (or similar) cycle wings and bonnet panel sound quite attractive (to me!).

Anyone done this, or can anyone point me in the direction of any companies who can make shaped pieces?

Ta muchly!

quite fancied a polycarb bonnet on my car, but i imagine it wouldn't take long to get scratched and look a bit rubbish

its not hard to do but you will need a good mould i made some stuff from an old bus shelter windows before with a heat gun and some wood to make the mold. made a sledge turned out great

I would imagine the polycarb bonnet would turn into a sticky mess over the engine fairly quickly?

You'd see all the crap stuck to the underside of the mudguards as well.

i might try it on a bonnet. i've got 2 bonnets. one is very heavy, so i might cut a bit out the middle and put a polycarb window in

Let me know how you get on Blake!

yeah, you might be waiting a while though. i've got enough other stuff to be doing before i think about that lol

Make one out of grp. If you pick your resin well, and minimise the voids, then it will be fairly clear at the end - not as clear as polycarbonate, but it would last a lot longer!

I have a pretty big vac former that could do front wings depending on size if that is any use.
