Big Brother Eviction

Channel 4 has been getting major stick recently for their handling of the racist comments in the last series.

How terribly convenient for them, then, that someone gets expelled for using an offensive word in the new series - they can show how they have taken the criticism on board and have cleaned up their act.

They couldn't possibly have put her up to it could they ? - "here's a bundle of used fivers, all you have to do is say n***** and you can go home " ? Surely not.

It was obviously done deliberately, but whether it was her trying to gain some notoriety or the program playing games it's clear yet.

The context was rather strange.

Im no expert on racism and have no desire to be - but was it really that bad? True the word had a bad tone some years ago but so did lots of words of old that are now in std use.

The actual use of the word didnt strike me as being too odd in a strange way but the reaction it got seemed to be OTT. As if it was played down initially and then blown out of all proportion after 5 mins. Almost as if the Jade Goody clone (Charley??) forgot her lines and had to do some fast recovery.

It's a strange one. It seems to be acceptable, when used by black people to each other. Where it seems to be used much like 'mate' amongst the younger generation.

Other than that it's still a major taboo.

a racist incident is one that anyone( not just the victim) belives it to be racist that includes one black person calling another ni***r if you think its racist report it. the police have a duty to invetigate so even someone watching the show can report it to the police and the girl could find herself in trouble

I somehow doubt, even if she was paid a goodly sum, that she would do that on purpose and be branded as racist considering the media coverage that the show gets.

Ill give it the benefit of the doubt and believe it was just an accidental comment.

Regardless of how the show handled it they coulds probs never win this one.
