missing pound
so work this one out
You borrow £100 from 2 mates each lending you £50, you spend £97.00 leaving you 3 pounds change so you give each mate £1.00 back leaving you with
£1.00 so now you owe each friend £49.00 total £98.00 you have £1.00 left \Total £99.00 wheres the other quid gone
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

I have that problem all the time. These days, money doesn't go as far as it used to
I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

In real terms you only borrowed £98 (£49x2)
You spend £97 which leaves you the quid.
And since you have £1 left you only owe 1 friend £49
and the other £48 plus the £1 making £49.

You owe each friend £49 which equals £98. You spent £97 and have £1 change yourself which equals £98. No missing pound

Your brain tricks you into thinking that the 'third' pound received in change is still relevant to the original borrowing deal. It
isn't.

the remaming 3 pounds haven't all been treated the same way, you've taken away the 2 you gave back, and added the 1 you kept, you either
take them all away and get 97, or you add them all on and got 100

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

You owe them the £97 you spent plus the £1 you have = £98
The quid is just the difference between what you've spent and what you owe and the mytery is just not adding up the right things.
