That is stunning - especially the view from the cameras on the bits that were left behind (boosters and fuel tank) showing the shuttle continuing
without them...

I think those camera's are new ones that have been put on to spot any damage to the underside (after the foam block disaster).
I was impressed the camera on the booster survived going up, coming back down and got even got some shots of the sea (around 9:50).

IIRC it's jettisoned high enough up that it burns up on the way down.

I believe it burns up, Might leave enough fuel in it to give a little more heat.
Im really surprised how fast it actually jumps off the platform... and how much it wobbles back and forth when the engines have started but its still
on the platform. Must be a good few metres at the nose of the tank....

When the boosters light up, there's a simple choice - get moving quickly, or explode!
The boosters mask the fact that the shuttle has 3 stonking great engines on the back, which is why the thing wobbles around so much before the
boosters start up.
