Plucked my turkey this evening, nice home reared 14 pounder..
Christmas dinner sorted

Great job isnt it!
When i was at school i had a job plucking fresh turkeys on a farm. Hardest part was hanging them up when they were still flapping like mad.

Are they not meant to be dead first? that probably would have made the hanging job easier.

They were dead but take a while to stop flapping. As said they were VERY fresh. Probs not allowed to do it now using our method at the time. Bit messy
if the hgeads come off

That's the turkey sorted, I've plucked it and stuffed it so all you have to do is kill it and cook it

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I watches a programe last week about british turkey farmers and the average age of our supermarket bought bits was just 14 weeks and they were up to
20-30lbs.
Some hand rearer guy was saying that his birds take 6 months to get to that weight, hence the question

Ah....
They'll be sat in a cage with nowt to do but eat.
Mine was one of six genuine free range birds, all were between 13 and 16lbs. They seem to grow fairly slow at first and in the last two
months shot up.
Very Tasty.
Went well with River Cottage black pud sprouts.........yummmmm
