Insurance logic
Could anyone explane to me how come i can get insurance on a 1998 BMW 535i V8 and not a LR disco?? Surely i am more liable in a 150mph bimmer than a
spug lugger? Its really preventing me changing my car and its doing my sweed in.....

Edit: not that i want a spud lugger just an example. And ill add im 20 with full 3 years NCB clean licence etc etc.

Not entirely sure but statistically you must be more liable to have a prang in the disco that the beamer, insurance is all about risk management,
believe me there are dafter cases than that floating about.
How about the following scenario,
70mph evasive manover in a beemer, wind down window to let the fart out 
70mph evasive manover in a disco, sky road sky road sky road trip in an ambulance if youre lucky enough!

yep, would totally agree on the handling characteristics being car not driver related.
Just had a thought, are you looking for these quotes online? as a lot of online quotes just cater for run of the mill scenarios i.e. joe blogs in a
1.8 focus diesel etc, someone in their 20s in an unusual or fast road car is outwith the norm. In this case if you actually contacted the company they
may be able to quote, OTOH the beemer scenario would contradict this.
I would have to fall back on my original thought of it must be a case of statistics. If you spoke to a good broker not some call centre that just
wants a quick sale you may get to the root of the problem.

Yea i am doing them online as i can't be bothered to sit and try and explane to someone that i MIGHT want to change my car and i just need a
quote, did it once and got fed up.
I can understand that they will not in some circumstances want to touch me due to the stats and facts... however when i was about 16 i managed to get
an online quote with an insurance company for a 5.0 TVR grifth (excuse the spelling) and that was £15,000. I just dont understand how they cannot
quote me, how do they know how much money i have etc?
Think i might have to grin and bear it when i come to change and ring around....

not getting an online quote doesnt mean they wont quote you.
I imagine they ask you to phone them up to get a quote at the end of the process? Thats what they did with my 04 fiesta tdci, said they couldnt quote
me online, then I had a quote in seconds on the phone for £700. Its because (as mentioned before) the online system uses a calculator based on the
average insurance buyer (middle aged white male with a citroen Xara Picasso for example) and isnt designed to quote outside of these parameters

Ah ha - you live in Malvern. Thats the problem. The hills do strange things to people. maybe the BMW has better headlights - seeing as the whole area
is plunged into darkness due to lack of street lighting they maybe think the disco is bigger liability.
Maybe the disco is more likely to suffer an attack by werewolves on the commons than the BMW too.
(My company used to have HQ near the showground (Willow End Park)- i like that area TBH).

There's also the factors of nick-ability and nick-worthy-ness. Would you rather joyride in a quick beemer or a chelsea tractor?
I got quoted just over £1000 for my 2l diesel mondeo, and £2100 for a 4l V8 BMW... Tis farcical...
