I do smile when I pass that lot - usually there's some guy sitting next to his engine, ready to answer questions... and the people just walk on by.

I suppose it is fascinating to restore one of these, and they do make a distinctive noise. Some of the old technology is interesting, e.g. the 'hit-and-miss' engine, and the old single-cyclinder narrow boat engines make a great noise.

... but, in the end, I just can't get that excited - I prefer the noise of an engine running at 6000+ rpm (and wait for the BEC folk to say "...at 10000+ rpm!".
