I assumed a whale out of water would continue to breathe air as normal.

In water, the bulk of the whale is supported, out of water, its bulk crushes its lungs and it dies

thats what the tubes down each side were for, to try to support it.

It actually died of dehydration, quite a sad thing that they forgot to give it a drink.

ermm, it was in water wasnt it joel

The article is a spoof - it didnt need to be factual (its a mammal and breathes air - doesnt need water to breathe)

the stuff i read said it needed to eat to hydrate. Its normal diet would have been to eat squid, in the atlantic. Prob was when it headed west it entered the mouth of the thames, and that was that.
