This is not a good enough warning. I'm not squeamish but my eyes stood out on stalks when I saw this.

If I'd just done that to myself, going and getting the camera would not even remotely enter my head. There would be a WHOLE lot of profane langauage being shouted at the world.

a moment of stupidity, a lifetime of regret.

WTF was he thinking?

omega0684 - 26/9/09 at 08:39 PM

what an idiot!

Actually on the face of it, it does sound like an easy way of cleaning a chain (done it with pushbikes!)

I guess the proper way it to keep it in neutral and push the chain along manually?

But yeah, ouch to say the least!

Reminds me of one of the Red Devil parachute team who caught his finger in a go kart chain , we all ended up walking round the track at midnight looking for his finger tip !.

When asked by some muppet if it hurt one of his team said "he is a Red Devil , what do you think?" My reply was "If he was a real man he would have finished the race"

probs not needed as the excess will get flung off on the chain as it goes over the rear sprocket.

Peteff - 28/9/09 at 10:45 PM

I brush on Jizer and use a hose to clean the chain, sprocket and wheel then apply some EP90 with an old tooth brush so fingers are not involved pushing the wheel round with one hand.

I remember once hearing about a guy who was taking a Cossie off a trailer at a show and tried to steady it by holding onto one of the alloy spokes which turned lopping all four of his fingers off when it met the caliper!!

Yuck

Bet he was docked points on the concourse for blood spatter.

I used to know a H&S guy who had hundreds of gruesome stories in a similar vein.

What I find scary, is that the police are now going to give this dumb sh1t a gun!

Ben_Copeland - 9/10/09 at 01:06 PM

OUCH

A lot of people say what an idiot, and i'd agree, but its so easy to do something stupid without thinking. how many people have had near misses and afterwards thought nothing of it, but in reality if something bad had happened they would of been thinking "stupid".

Yeah but with his missing fingers he's going to have to have it modified, maybe the best place to stand when he weilds that would be right in front of him

focijohn - 11/10/09 at 05:40 PM

There was a simalar story to this with a local garage that i heard about the other week. Basicly assumptions made to the where abouts of a co-workers hands instead of shouting OK?, the key was turned and the guys index and middle finger was taken around by the cambelt and crushed by the cam sproket.

JoelP - 12/10/09 at 08:58 PM

its a pretty bleak mistake to make, but at least he has useable stalks left, a palm and an arm. It could always be worse!

JoelP - 12/10/09 at 09:48 PM

who would have thought it?

JoelP - 15/10/09 at 06:48 AM

such a silly mistake too, if she had thought about it she would've realised it was a bad idea. How was she ever going to get her hands out?

She wasn't being properly supervised by the teacher as she wasn't doing the right thing.

Most people don't realise how dangerous the stuff can be if used incorrectly and I suspect that's why the paramedics didn't get a bit more rough about getting it off quickly, better to have bashed up hands but have a better chance of keeping the fingers IMO.
