A bit pointless I think. I don't reckon that it generates enough torque to contribute anything significantly and just serves as a weight on the bike. He should just take the motor out and leave the thing to turn under his own steam.

Does there have to be a point to everything?

I reckon that it was built for a laugh... coupling the electric motor in the 'robot' directly to the rear wheel would have been far more efficient - but far less fun!

Took the words out of my mouth! No-one would seriously suggest this was a good way of providing an electric assist to a bike, but it's a great bit of engineering (and art) in it's own right IMO.
