not happy, 40% pay cut!
Moorron - 4/8/09 at 08:44 PM

Not too happy at the moment and need to vent so here goes:

work has been quite for some time resulting in 12 shop floor going at the start of the year leaving 30 shop floor and 32 staff. The owners anounced in |March time they need to save money to show the banks we are doing something about the money flow and we are given notice or possible redundancies. months go by with the same story of 'we are waiting for the banks to comeback to us' while suggesting a company wide 10% pay cut might solve it. Then again nothing until today when we are told we are all going onto 3 days a week and a 40% pay cut!

WTF! if they did something in march we wouldnt be so stuffed now. To top it off 5 days a week isnt enought for the only busy area the engineering department so now im under even more pressure at work and no way enough money to pay the bills!

grrr

thanks for listening

The time has come to move on I think, as realistically do you think the company has any chance to stay afloat? Probably not and the longer you hang on in hope, the worse it will be for you when it does close. If it was me I’d be on a 110% effort to look for a new job while still getting paid something, you now have 4 days a week to look for one. Good luck.

Have they cut your hourly rate or just your actual hours ? Get down to the Job Centre or whatever it's called now and see if you can get any help from them.

re: 3 days a week and a 40% pay cut!

I would say with my school boy math, it is reduction of hours.

If one assumes the OP works 5 day week, then payment for each day accounts for 20% of salary; two days less equates to 40% - simples.

like Mr W, start looking for a new job.

Cheers lads, yes i work 5 days a week at the moment as staff.

The meeting today answered 1 question of mine. This months wage is effected as we get paid on the 14th of the month and it comes into effect on the 17th. I dont like this as i cant plan my outgoings this month as its too late now.

I think many will just leave as nearly everyone cant live on a 40% reduction in wages.

May I suggest security? There appears to be a good few jobs going
