Making a DVD from AVI files
VinceGledhill - 15/12/06 at 11:43 AM

Anyone know how I can burn a DVD from an AVI file?

I've downloaded an AVI file of the first series of Lost and have burned it to DVD as is and my DVD player just says "Unrecognised" ideas anyone?

One way to do it, is using a program called dvdsanta, this will convert the avi file and also burn it to a disc however it is a little slow. Another way is to use nero, it has an option somewhere to make a DVD video which will do the same thing only faster (at least on my PC)

edit, on my pc it normal takes about as long to encode as watching the file in the 1st place

In nero, when I go to burn a DVD it is looking for VideoTS and AudioTS any idea what that's all about?

yes, its looking for the encoded filesm which nero should make for you

once the files are added keep click next and then burn, then it should make a dvd which should play.

If you dont want island thing at the start if you press the more button after adding the files and dis select "create menu on disc"

My nero doesn't look anything like that. It's nero burning rom.

Thanks for the info mate. I'll see if I can grab a copy of your version.

have a look in your nero folder to see if there is a program called NeroStartSmart

mine is here

"Crogram FilesAheadNero StartSmartNeroStartSmart.exe"

or try

start
run...
and then copy and paste "Crogram FilesAheadNero StartSmartNeroStartSmart.exe"
and then click ok

Easiest way is to buy a DVD player that'll play div-x etc. I bought mine from CCL computers for £35, it even plays video from my USB memory stick.
I've not found anything it won't play.

My 5 year old thinks it's great

Mine doesn't give me the options like your version. I'm DC++ing a copy of version 7 right now. Thanks for your help matey.

Playing from a USB memory stick. Now that IS cool. Nice

I use AVI2DVD to make the odd one, it's really simple compared to most of the re-encoding programs about. You just tell it what file you want to convert to DVD and it does it, and gives you a dvd image that you just burn in Nero. Only thing it doesn't do that I wish it did is allow you to make up a DVD from a few different episode files..

VINCE - AVOID NERO7... It's a pile of SH!T!!!! Lots and lots and lots of bugs, almost everyone who uses it (and has posted an opinion) has complained about the bugs!!!

Stick with Nero 6 (whatever version) for now at least.

If you want NERO 7 I have the genuine disc you are welcomed to with my condolenses.... it really is the biggest pile of POO since IE7 and thats saying something!!!
