Son of Car Stacker

Further to my “Car Stacker” thread – thanks for the advice all of you gave – here is my draft design based on a 30 Ton jack that genuinely fell off a truck about 30 years ago and has been lying in my garage ever since. Any comments gratefully accepted.

Obviously legs will be deployed once the stacker is lifted. – Also makes a great build table for future projects and is useful for car maintenance.

Also - with "Turbo Boost" and right aerofoils won't even need to lower the Lotus to leave the garage

Looks good.

I guess you are going to have to be pretty heavy duty on the hinges and the runners. The force acting on the beams where they meet the jack is going to be the critical point.

mmmm I assume that the jack will be fixed to the base bit other wise the jack will just lift the whole lot up. It will need to be pretty strong too as all the weight in the car is out over the unsupported bit.

maybe put the car on forwards instead of reversing it on would help?

i take it your going to add some supports to the front end, to lock the car in it's up position, i'd not trust hydralics to keep my car up there for any length of time

I would say the critical point will be the hinge.

When you say legs - there will be something at the front to support the tray at the oppostie end to the hinge?

you cannot trust the seals to be 100% sealing for a long period of time, espctially on 30 yr old jack, so legs at the ront IMO are a must plus would take up a lot of the strain. Some sort of extended and self ratcheting design - see machine mart axle stands - but much longer would be ideal.

Yes - the legs will take the weight off the jack once fully extended.

For hinges I will use some old bulldozer track rollers with a 40 mm pin inside that I have lying around and have always been too hard to cut or machine.
